Voters in the Ballston Spa School District voted against a proposal for a $56.1 million building project, 1,664 to 843.
The proposal was largely for upgrades to the middle school, which was built in 1957 and intended for 800 students. It currently has an enrollment of 1,050.
The district says that the state would have paid for 79 percent of the project. Still, the average $221,000 home in the district would have paid $120 more per year in taxes.`
