The Town of Ballston will be examining a proposal to expand and improve Jenkins Park at its next Town Board meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
An initial proposal to add playground equipment was presented to the board on the evening of Tuesday, Sept. 26, outlining the possibilities. The Jenkins Park Advisory Board has been considering a small addition for some time, according to the presentation by advisory board member Lynnette Ziskin.
The playground would serve children ages 2 to 12 and include a number of structures, including several slides and an inclined loop bridge. Estimates for the cost of the playground come to just under $10,000 from the Miracle Recreation Equipment Company.
Included in the price will be free shipping and a free park bench. Ziskin said that the advisory board researched many options, and the Miracle playground was the most cost-effective.
The money for the addition will come out of the Jenkins Park fund, and because of the low cost, there will not be a need to bid the project.
There will be other costs associated with the project, including bringing in sand, concrete and grass removal, coming to just over $2,000.
If the playground is approved at the September board meeting, an October installation would be possible. Though a Miracle representative would be available for a `supervised installation,` volunteers would also be needed.
Councilman Tim Szczepaniak suggested that Ben Baskin of the Ballston Area Community Center be contacted. The BACC opened a new playground in June, and Szczepaniak said Baskin’s coordination skills could be handy at Jenkins Park.
In a separate motion, the advisory board also suggested the installation of stone dust for the path on the east side of ball field three at Jenkins at an estimated cost of $1,150. The board will address that issue on Sept. 2 as well.“
