Guilderland High School Principal Michael Paolino was placed on paid administrative leave effective Monday, July 28.
Communications Specialist for the District Amy Zurlo said Paolino will remain on leave indefinitely and said she cannot comment on the personnel matter further.
School officials could not confirm the reason for the action.
Local media outlets have reported that Guilderland teachers have corroborated stories involving Paolino using racist and homophobic language, although these allegations have not been specifically tied to the administrative leave.
One incident involves Mr. Paolino making an anti-gay reference to `not drop the soap` on the last day of the school year.
Another incident involves Paolino making remarks about two African American students who were misbehaving. He allegedly said they were going to be sent `back to Albany.`
Paolino was formerly a teacher at Voorheesville High School before taking over as principal of Guilderland High School.
Guilderland Superintendent John McGuire has been under heavy fire by a divided community and a petition has been circulated calling for his removal from office, after he recently transferred two High School teachers ` Matt Nelligan and Ann Marie McManus ` as the result of a `culture climate inquiry.`
Paolino informed Matt Nelligan and Ann Marie McManus of their transfer to Farnsworth Middle School on the same day he allegedly made the homophobic statement.“
