Elsmere Avenue in Delmar has re-opened according to the town’s commissioner of public works, Josh Cansler.
Cansler told town board members at their last meeting that they discovered a sewer main running underneath Elsmere Avenue was broken in at least two places and would have to be dug up, resulting in the closure of both lanes of traffic until the sewer line is fixed.
The repair went quickly and was completed ahead of schedule and both lanes of traffic are now open. Cansler added that there were no major problems with the construction or with traffic.
However, paving and milling will continue on Delaware Avenue for the rest of the month, according the Department of Transportation, between the hours of 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
I’ve been told we can all now flush with confidence, Supervisor Jack Cunningham joked when hearing the news.
