Jeffery M. Loomis, 18, of Delmar, was arrested Thursday, June 26, for felony third-degree burglary and for fourth-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor.
Loomis is the son of recently retired superintendent of the Bethlehem Central School District, Dr. Les G. Loomis.
Bethlehem police say they responded to reports of the sound of windows breaking near a residence on Journey Lane in Delmar.
The complainant told police she was walking her dog and had noticed a car parked outside of a nearby home and while walking back home she heard a window break and saw two males run from the residence and got in the vehicle and left the area, according to the arrest report.
Police said they arrived on the scene and found a basement window broken at the home and saw several windows with palm prints indicating `that someone tried to open them.`
The reports stated that police detective Adam Hornick was heading to the scene to collect evidence when he saw the suspected vehicle parking in the front yard of a home on Beacon Road.
Hornick, along with officers, approached the backyard of the property and saw `several people talking inside it [the house],` according to police, where it was overheard, `I kicked the widow in.`
At that point, the door of the home opened and officers discovered Loomis inside, along with several others, the report stated. Police separated and interviewed the occupants of the house.
Loomis was taken into custody and transported to the Bethlehem police station and then arraigned in Bethlehem Town Court in front of Justice Ryan Donovan, according to the arrest report.
Donovan sent Loomis to the Albany County Correctional Facility on $5,000 bail, and he is scheduled to return to court on Friday, July 11.
