Madalayne Smith continues to make a name for herself.
The Saratoga Springs freshman won four individual events to lead the Blue Streaks to the team title at Wednesday’s Section II, Class A girls track and field championships in Queensbury.
Smith won the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.12 seconds and finished first in the 100-meter high hurdles with a time of 14.72 seconds. She also swept the long and triple jump titles with respective distances of 17 feet, 6.75 inches and 36 feet, 1.5 inches.
Hannah Davidson contributed three individual victories for Saratoga. The senior won the 1,500 in a time of 4:34.28 and the 3,000 in a time of 9:55.20, and for good measure she finished first in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:06.26, .41 seconds ahead of teammate Amanda Borroughs.
Michelle Riley and Brianne Bellon contributed individual victories in track events. Riley won the 400 dash in a time of 57.80 seconds, while Bellon took first place in the 800 with a time of 2:15.82. Riley was second in the 800 with a time of 2:17.52.
Riley and Bellon also teamed up with Cassie Goutos and Erica Howes to win the girls 3,200 relay in a time of 9:24.64.
Haley Franco added a victory in the shot put with a throw of 34 feet, 10.5 inches for the Blue Streaks, who finished with 166 team points. Shenendehowa was second with 122 points, and Colonie placed third with 80 points.
Shen’s Michelle Quimby set a Section II record in the girls pole vault by clearing 11 feet, 7.5 inches. Quimby was also part of Shen’s winning 400 relay team. Kathleen Klein added a victory in the 200 dash with a time of 25.82 seconds.
Guilderland, which finished fourth with 50 points, also had two individual champions and a first-place relay team. Karley Giles won the high jump by clearing 5 feet, 2 inches in fewer attempts than Quimby, while Briana Delbene took the discus title with a throw of 115 feet, 7 inches. Guilderland’s 1,600 relay team of Anna Pickett, Jackie Deluise, Lindsay Hall and Liz Schwennker finished first in a time of 4:03.87.
Colonie’s lone champion was Erica Weiglhofer. The senior cruised to the pentathlon title with 2,771 points, more than 400 points than her nearest competitor.`
