After a bit of a late start due to various reasons, the Indian Ladder Farm in New Scotland is set to open on Wednesday, June 4, with Baby Animal Day to follow on Saturday, June 7.
Cecelia Soloniev has taken over for Laurie Ten Eyck as manager of the popular orchard.
We’re going to open up the barn and we’ll have animals here to see and to pick them up, said Soloniev, the orchard’s former education coordinator. `We’ll also have the learning center open`
Soloniev said $5 gets the little ones in both the Baby Animal Barn and the learning center, but that adult admission is free.
All of the orchard’s facilities will be open for the season, including the cafE, the retail market, and the pick-your-own strawberries. The learning center will provide information on the interdependence of humans and animals, and about animal welfare in general.
Indian Ladder Farms will also be offering five different weeklong sessions, which are day camps and will focus on animal care and life on the farm. The sessions begin on Mondays and the schedule is as follows:
July 7 ` Barn School
July 14 ` ‘We Love Rabbits’
July 21 ` Primitive Skills, Nature and You
Aug. 11 ` Barn School
Aug. 25 ` Life on the Farm in the 1800’s
Indian Ladder Farms is located on 342 Altamont Road, between the villages of Voorheesville and Altamont.
