The Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk baseball team started the season with a bang.
Joey Boomhower hit a home run and combined with three other pitchers for nine strikeouts in a 7-4 non-league victory over Coxsackie-Athens last Thursday in Ravena.
Considering how much we’d been on the field, it was a very good effort, said R-C-S coach Bob Dorrance.
The Indians scored one run in the bottom of the second inning and two runs in the bottom of the third before breaking the game open with a four-run fifth inning. Coxsackie-Athens (1-1) scored twice in each of the last two innings, but it wasn’t enough.
Zach Deering contributed a double for R-C-S, which only had three outdoor practices on its home field before hosting Coxsackie-Athens.
`The field drained well, and it was in pretty good shape,` said Dorrance.
The Indians are hoping for similar efforts during their Colonial Council schedule, which is slated to begin Monday, April 7, against Lansingburgh.
`Lansingburgh is Lansingburgh ` they always have a couple of good pitchers,` said Dorrance.“
