The Ballston Town Council appointed Murry Brower as town attorney in a 4-to-1 vote Tuesday, Feb. 26, despite dissention by Town Supervisor Patti Southworth, who said she felt there were people with more legal experience.
Brower was appointed to the position over five other candidates the council reviewed.
Not only does he have strong ties to the community, but he brings a lot of legal experience to the table, said Council Member Mary Beth Hynes, who supported the appointment. `I’m really looking forward to working with Mr. Brower.`
Southworth said that some of the candidates would have a more significant learning curve based on their previous experience.
Hynes said Brower would have a lot of work to do in familiarizing himself with town issues, but that he has keep a close eye on the town council, and the transition should be relatively easy.
Brower represented Harold Townley during a hearing in October to consider a complaint filed by Southworth against Townley for unfair campaign practices.
Brower will replace Charlton Potts, who issued a letter in December, stating he would not be seeking reappointment after 12 years of service to the town. “
