Nichols’ Shop ‘n’ Save owners Kevin and Cheryl Smith recently announced plans to sell the store to Hannaford Supermarkets.
They will also sell Miller’s Shop ‘n’ Save in West Sand Lake. The Smith family will retain the Ravena and Hoosic Valley Shop ‘n’ Save stores.
The Smiths acquired the Voorheesville store in January.
They said Hannaford will be purchasing the assets of the two stores including all licenses, inventory, fixtures and equipment. Hannaford will also operate the pharmacy in the Voorheesville store.
Hannaford has been our wholesale supplier for over eight years in West Sand Lake, and since earlier this year in Voorheesville. We share a commitment to offering our customers the goods and services they want for prices and quality that represent superior value, said Kevin Smith.
Hannaford Vice President Kevin Hill said that Hannaford and the Smith family `have enjoyed a long-term relationship, and we look forward to continuing the tradition of exceptional customer service, quality products, variety and value that Miller’s Shop ‘n’ Save and Nichols’ Shop ‘n’ Save customers have come to expect.`
Miller’s Shop ‘n’ Save and Nichols Shop ‘n’ Save employ a total of 187 full- and part-time associates. Hill said that members of Hannaford’s human resources team will be meeting with all West Sand Lake and Voorheesville associates to discuss employment.
In a letter to associates at the two stores, Smith noted that he and his wife, Cheryl, had considered many factors when they were approached to sell the stores and that the decision was a difficult one.
In his letter, he said that `I feel that they (Hannaford) are one of the best companies to work for in the supermarket industry, and I know you will realize this in the coming months.`
`We look forward to serving customers in the West Sand Lake and Voorheesville areas and becoming part of the communities,` Hill said.
The deal is expected to close at the end of October.
Hannaford Bros. Co., based in Scarborough, Maine, operates 160 stores in the Northeast. “
