The 35th annual Five Rivers Fall Festival will be held Saturday, Sept. 15, from noon to 4 p.m. at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center on Game Farm Road in Delmar.
Thousands of people attend the festival each year to celebrate the 400 acres of Five Rivers, which include broad fields, towering forests, tranquil ponds and wetlands and the various forms of wildlife that live in those habitats.
Family-friendly activities will include an incredible water journey, scavenger hunt, orienteering course, the ever-popular insect safari and guided trail hikes every half hour. Order forms for the annual bird seed sale, which will feature premium quality seeds from Lyric, Droll Yankee feeders, and Pine Tree Farms suet balls, cakes and holders.
Many of the festival’s most popular activities will return, including Dee’s Reptiles and Amphibians, Jerry Dievendorf’s display of strange and exotic insects from around the world, and Wayne Trimm and Melodee James’ Birds of Prey, including the largest and smallest owls in the Northeast.
Also during the event, the Friends of Five Rivers will be running their silent auction and book, plant and bake sales.
Acoustic Hartland and the Nisky Dixie Cats will be performing. Acoustic Hartland brings ’70s and ’80s songs to life with a repertoire ranging from ballads to bluesy rock. The Nisky Dixie Cats have delighted audiences for years with their Dixieland jazz.
The festival will be held rain or shine. Admission and parking are free.
The festival is sponsored by the Friends of Five Rivers, in conjunction with the Five Rivers Environmental Education Center, which is operated by the state Department of Environmental Conservation.
