Some sales aren’t meant to last forever.
If you’re planning to clean out your basement and set up tables on your driveway in the Village of Ballston Spa, make sure it’s a temporary project.
Village trustees Monday night, June 25, revisited local laws governing the display and sale of private merchandise.
Village attorney Richard Kupferman said residents are allowed to hold up to five yard sales per year, with each one lasting a total two days and one weekend.
Trustee Donna Thomas said some people around town were pushing the envelope on the ordinance, trying to make their sale a seasonal endeavor.
There are sidewalk sales out there that have been going on for three weeks, said Thomas. `It’s quite obvious, so you aren’t going to get away with it. Sooner or later, someone will notice and complain.`
In other business, the board voted to fund several community organizations. They allocated $10,000 as their 2007-2008 annual contribution to the Ballston Area Community Center, commonly called the teen center, and $1,200 to the National Bottle Museum on Milton Avenue.
The board also passed a resolution supporting a grant application by the
Ballston Spa Junior Baseball League, Inc. from the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. If successfully awarded, the grant would provide seed monies for a rehabilitation of the field complex, located in the town of Milton.
The Ballston Spa Village Trustees will meet again on Monday, July 9, at 7:30 p.m. at the Village Clerk’s Office on Front Street.
