It will take about six months of construction before the newly revived Route 50 plaza in Glenville is completed. The vacated strip mall across from Price Chopper on Route 50 Saratoga Road was torn down last week, making way for a more upscale plaza that will include a unique architectural flare.
`The new look of this building will actually bring in the ‘old.’ The front of this plaza will be a replica of a Main Street type of feel. We will have five tenants, including Starbucks and Panera Bread,` said town Planner Kevin Corcoran.
Corcoran said the town has been striving to bring in this type of structural design. He said with so much new development, the town has been trying to balance it out with buildings that have character.
`This building will be a major architectural improvement that will brighten up that entire stretch of Route 50. There will be a combination of brickwork and landscaping,` said Corcoran.
The town hired Nigro Companies to carry out the project, which should be completed by the end of the year. Steve Powers of Nigro said there would be an outdoor dining area as well as a bank in the plaza.
`We are unsure of the other tenants at this point. We are confident there will be a good mix of businesses within the plaza,` said Powers.
Corcoran said the structure would have a Hollywood-type of set with its one story structure.
`The building is one floor; however, this type of construction will give it the look of two floors,` said Corcoran.
The building will be about 19,000 square feet, with Panera Breads taking up about 4,000 square feet.
