Who wants to brave a long line at the cinema and sit in a stuffy theater, when you can take in a movie under the stars in Ballston Spa?
On Friday, June 15, the Ballston Spa Business and Professional Association, or BSBPA, will present a free outdoor screening of Disney’s Peter Pan in the quaint, old-fashioned Wiswall Park on Front and Low streets in downtown Ballston Spa.
The screening begins as soon as it is dark enough — approximately 8:45 p.m.
Moviegoers are asked to bring their own seating, lawn chairs or blankets, and popcorn. There’s also one other thing people won’t want to forget.
`It’s summer, so that means bugs will be out,` said BSBPA board member Daniel DeFabio, who is helping organize the outdoor event. `Families are strongly encouraged to bring bug spray.`
Last year, the village hosted the film `Madagascar` in the Eastern Avenue recreation field. Like a drive-in movie, families gathered under the dark sky before an enormous projection screen, but also battled the bugs.
`The really smart people used bug repellent and also brought citronella candles,` said village Mayor John Romano.
`Madagascar` had a good number of viewers, but there was plenty of lawn space for more.
`We were competing with the opening night of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ at the Malta Drive-in last year,` said Romano.
The film will be screened against the large wall adjacent to the park, and will run for one hour and 17 minutes.
`This is another fun, free activity we can offer the community, and we invite families from surrounding neighborhoods to experience more of what our village has to offer,` said DeFabio. `We hope this will be the first of several films screened this summer.`
Should a summer thunderstorm strike, the rain date for this event will be Saturday, June 16.
