Maple Road in Voorheesville was closed to all traffic for one hour this morning between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. when a man driving a gray pickup truck drove his vehicle into a telephone pole, shearing the pole in two. A large cable wire held the two sections of the pole together until crews removed the pole.
The man had a coughing spell and then he blacked out, said Dan Coons, captain of the New Salem Fire Police.
New Salem Fire Department and Voorheesville Fire Department responded to the scene, along with Albany County sheriff’s deputies and state police.
The man was taken to St. Peter’s Hospital for precautionary measures, but no other injuries occurred.
The accident occurred in front of a single-family residence at 86 Maple Road.
National Grid and Time Warner Cable were called to the scene. No power was lost, but crews from Time Warner were trying to restore cable that was lost to some nearby homes.
