State Police are reminding motorists following the recent heavy snowfall to keep in mind of kids playing in the snowbanks near the roadways and sledding in neighborhoods instead of specific sled areas.
Kids are off from school because of the storm and will be again next week for President’s Week. Not only do children use yards and driveways to sled into the streets, but they tunnel and make snow caves in the snowbanks bordering the streets.
In the past, we have seen tragedies occur when either a snow plow struck a hidden child in a snowbank or a car ran over a child that sledded into the road.
State Police advise parents to talk to their kids as well as supervise their outdoor activity closely.
They are also advising the motoring public to be more alert.`
