Bynon reaches another milestone

The more things change, the more they stay the same with the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake girls volleyball team.

The Lady Spartans extended their Suburban Council winning streak to 235 games with a 3-0 victory over Niskayuna Tuesday and capped a regular season in which they went 22-1.

Head coach Gary Bynon, who recently won his 400th career match, said that the team’s accomplishments are remarkable given that it graduated several key players from last year’s state championship.

What these kids have done is stepped up and improved with every game, said Bynon.

Burnt Hills has been getting consistently strong play from Amanda Begin, Erin Little and Becca Ormsby this season. Little and Begin have been two of the team’s top scorers, while Ormsby has helped with assists and blocks.

The Lady Spartans will now shift their focus to winning another Section II, Class A title when the playoffs begin this weekend.

`Right now, everybody is 0-0,` said Bynon. `Two weeks ago, we decided to take it one match at a time. We’re just getting ready for our first Sectional game now.`

Should the Lady Spartans get past Sectionals, they can enjoy home-court advantage throughout the regional and state tournaments. Burnt Hills is hosting the regionals Nov. 11, and the state tournament moves to the Glens Falls Civic Center this year after Oneonta hosted it last year.

`We are ecstatic about it,` Bynon said of the state tournament coming to Glens Falls Nov. 17 and 18. `The people up there have been absolutely wonderful and supportive about it.“
