Stacie Peugh of Clifton Park was installed as the newest Shenendehowa Rotary president June 29 by newly elected district governor Anne Cargile.
Peugh, a resident of Clifton Park for three and a half years, says her greatest influences have been her father, along with the former president for the Rotary of Champlain Canal, Harriet Nobel.
My father had been a Rotar-ian of Glenville for many years. While I was working at the local YMCA, the executive director at the time approached me with the opportunity to join the Rotary Club. My father encouraged me to pursue the responsibility.
Now, as president of the organization of business and professional leaders, Peugh’s goal, among many others, is to support the district governor and club members as they put their plans into action.
Fundraising for both local and international projects are included in her duties and discussed at weekly meetings for the 40 members of the Shenendehowa Rotary. The basic purpose of the club is to serve the local and international communities. They have awarded grants to support local community service initiatives and have adopted roadsides that are cleaned and maintained regularly. The Rotary of Shenedehowa is also involved with the 20 members of Youth InterACT within the towns of Clifton Park and Halfmoon. The program, launched in 2002, aims to encourage 12- to 25-year-olds from a range of backgrounds and experiences to have their say in youth issues.
In upcoming events, the Shenendehowa Rotary Club has scheduled a CPR class for Tuesday, Sept. 19, and a family-oriented scavenger hunt with a `Magnificent Mystery Tour` theme on Saturday, Oct. 14.
The international projects for Shenendehowa’s Rotary Club revolve around the welfare of Africa and Honduras. Rotarian members have volunteered to go abroad and help out in the poverty stricken areas of Africa. They have provided the children with school supplies, including schoolhouses, chalkboards, pencils and notebooks. The Shenendehowa Rotary team has raised funds to install sand filters to provide pure water for several residents of Honduras.
Past president, Eric Hamilton, said, `The club has really neat plans for the coming year. It’s an exciting time. Stacie is really doing a great job so far in pulling everything together.` Added Hamilton, `I am really encouraged by the new leadership initiatives that Shenendehowa’s Rotary has established over the past year. It looks to be a positive year, and I am looking forward to growing the club in membership.` “
