For Massachusetts natives Terry and Michael Schmitz, a trip to the Latham Greens Family Fun Center seemed like a perfect way to pass the time while visiting the Capital District.
The Lee, Mass., natives were in town for a wedding and decided to check out the new hot spot and see the recent miniature golf course renovations first-hand.
It’s something we have never seen before. It was a cross between a show and golf, said Terry Schmitz. `The special effects made us feel like we were in the middle of a video game.`
The indoor golf course has a fantasy theme complete with wizards, dragons and, of course, black knights. The game is challenging and a great bet for seasoned miniature golfers.
The owners had the indoor course designed to make participants feel as if they are underwater, traveling through space and even in the jungle.
The outside course has almost doubled in size and has improved lighting. The course carries through with the knights-and-castles theme with each hole. There are trees on the course that have been uniquely carved into knights and dragons.
`The locations for both the outdoor course and the indoor course are perfect. There is food nearby and, of course, Hoffman’s Playland. It’s a perfect summer set up,` said Schmitz.
Anthony Fazzone, of New Loudon Road Associates, put more than $300,000 in renovations into what were formally the Hoffman’s golf cashier area and the Pendleton Clothing Shop, according to the American City Business Journals. Fazzone said at a Colonie planning board meeting in March that, while he intends to eventually use the 37-acre property for a residential and retail area, the renovated course will serve as revenue for the next few years.
