Mohonasen will have a new athletic director next month, the third in just 10 months.
The board of education appointed Joseph Scalise to a three-year term as the district’s new director of physical education, health and athletics effective July 1.
Scalise replaces the current interim director, Tom McCarthy, who has served since Sept. 1, when Timothy McNamara left after three years as AD for another job.
McCarthy retired from Mohonasen several years ago. He helped out the school district by serving as interim AD while Mohonasen searched for a replacement.
An AD oversees district sports teams, physical education classes and health programs.
My vision as the new director would be to provide an environment where student athletes can excel, said Scalise. `With the help of the coaches, administrators, teachers and parents of Mohonasen being focused on the same goal, we can provide a positive experience for all students.`
The new AD has taught physical education classes, and coached varsity soccer and junior varsity lacrosse at Midlakes High School, a Rochester-area school, for the last six years. Scalise also served as the physical education department chairman for the last two years.
He earned his bachelor’s in physical education from SUNY Brockport. He holds a master’s degree in physical education, with a concentration in athletic administration, from Brockport. Scalise earned his school district administrator’s certification from Massachusetts College with an eye toward becoming an AD.
`I am looking forward to becoming a part of the Mohonasen Central School District and the community,` says Scalise. `I embrace the opportunity to assist in the development of our student athletes.` “
