Defensive driving class
Save on your auto insurance, and mark your calendar for Thursday, Aug. 25. The Driver Fitness Center offers a defensive driving class from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for $25. The class is open to drivers of any age. For more information and to RSVP call 459-2857, ext. 303.
Wellness luncheon
The Health and Wellness Program will host a luncheon with guest speaker Kathleen Leonard from the Eddy Health Alert to present on “Senior Home Safety” on Tuesday, Aug. 16, at noon at the Rudy A. Ciccotti Family Recreation Center. The complimentary lunch will include turkey, ham and egg cobb salad with bacon bits and an oatmeal bar. Tool Box
Welcome summer! Home and garden improvement projects are underway, and if you are looking for new and slightly used tools, come in to see what we have in stock. Stop in between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays or Saturdays, and work with our friendly and knowledgeable volunteers to pass your “old friends” on to the next tool lover. King Thiel Senior Community
We know that many people are excited for the leasing to begin at the King Thiel Senior Community. By filling out an application, you will be put on our waiting list for residency. Coming this fall, we will start the leasing process when you will be able to pick out your apartment and put down a deposit to reserve it. Only those who have applied will have a chance to live at King Theil Senior Community in the spring of 2017. Umbrella of Colonie
The Umbrella of Colonie handymen have been very busy these past couple of months bouncing around to members’ homes to get them ready for summer, but we aren’t too busy for you. As you notice more work needs to be done in and around the house, give us a call at 459-2857, ext. 311! Jim Quinn, Umbrella of Colonie director, is always around to talk to residents of Colonie about how to become an Umbrella member and all of the benefits that are “Under the Umbrella,” including free banking with CAP COM, a fitness membership and more.
Volunteer opportunities
If you are over the age of 55 and are looking for great volunteer opportunities, then the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of the Capital Region would be great for you. With more than 30 volunteer stations, we are sure to have a position for you. Right now many of our stations are looking for the perfect volunteers. Albany Memorial Hospital is looking for a volunteer to help with their front desk, and the American Red Cross is looking for Donor ambassadors to help throughout the area. Other stations looking for volunteers include the Capital Region Theological Center, Schenectady Home Furnishings, Senior Services of Albany, Westview Senior Center, and the Tool Box.
