COLONIE— A Shaker High School teacher was arrested yesterday amid allegations of the teacher having inappropriate relationships with minors.
On Wednesday, Oct. 5, Colonie police arrested Daniel Weaver, 46, following an investigation about his conduct with students, according to a police. In late September, Shaker High School contacted police with concerns about Weaver’s relationship with a student, according to police. Initially, no criminal behavior was discovered.
However, in the two weeks that have passed since the initial investigation, police found that Weaver allegedly had been engaging in online communication with a male student with requests to meet in-person and suggestive photos, according to police. Weaver also allegedly sent gift cards to the student, who is 16. Police say that the alleged contact spanned from June 2015 to the fall of 2015. As part of the investigation, police have seized Weaver’s cell phone and other digital media devices.
Though additional charges are possible in the future, there is currently no evidence about other victims, said police.
“The arrest resulted from information provided to district officials two weeks ago, which included allegations of inappropriate communications by Mr. Weaver with current and former students,” Shaker High School said in a statement on its website. “The district immediately reported this information to the Colonie Police Department and also notified the State Education Department, as required by law. At that time, Mr. Weaver was removed from his duties at Shaker High School and was not allowed on district property while Colonie Police conducted their investigation.”
Weaver has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, and will be arraigned tonight at the Town of Colonie Justice Court.
