The Capital District Fusion — a 16-and-under travel softball team comprised of players from Colonie, Shaker, Shenendehowa, Columbia and Maple Hill high schools — won the United States Speciality Sports Association’s Road to Orlando World Series July 9-16 in Orlando, Fla.
After going through pool play with a 3-0 record, the Fusion lost to Velocity Gulf Coast from Mississippi. The Fusion won its next game to qualify for the championship round, where it beat Velocity Gulf Coast twice to claim the championship.
Colonie’s Maria Tedisco was named the outstanding pitcher of the tournament, and Shen’s Nicole McCarvill was named the most outstanding player.
The entire Fusion roster includes Maria Tedisco, Jennifer Tedisco and Madison Judge of Colonie; Allie Lajeunesse of Shaker; Cailey Cuttita, Megan Gillooley, Kira Konarski, Nicole McCarvill and Olivia Murray of Shen; Danielle DiNovo and Jennah Hogan of Columbia; and Arianna Papas of Maple Hill. The team is coached by Rick Tedisco, Chris Cuttita, Rob DiNovo and John McCarvill.
