TROY — The Capital District Transportation Authority reported a record-breaking 28,600 members used its CDPHP Cycle bike-sharing program for 80,311 rides last season.
The amount of use set a new record for the bike-sharing program, which last year was the sixth season in activity.
“We are beyond thrilled to see record-breaking ridership on CDPHP Cycle! as we continue to grow the program,” said CDTA CEO Carm Basile. “It reinforces the need and want for more mobility options in the Capital Region. We want to thank our riders, partners, and the community for their continued support in making CDPHP Cycle! a huge success. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back in Spring 2023 and to introduce electric bikes.”
CDTA officials credited new technology and further expansion into new areas for the jump in numbers. Last year, the program expanded into Menands and Watervliet, where the transportation company said they observed more than 1,200 rides. The largest increase in ridership occurred in Schenectady, where participation went from 2,800 in 2021 to more than 6,000.
“It’s hard to believe that we’ve closed out an incredible, record-breaking sixth season of CDPHP Cycle!,” said John D. In all, the program saw 128,600 miles ridden, 5.1 million calories burned, 113,400 pounds of carbon reduced, and saved $74,600!
CDTA said the popular bike-sharing program will return this spring, with the introduction of electric bikes, new technology and more locations. The company also announced a new, three-year partnership with Drop Mobility and Shared Mobility, Inc. that will manage the fleet and daily operational services.
CDTA was named the 2017 Best Mid-Sized Transportation System in North America by the American Public Transportation Association.
