LATHAM — The Shaker boys soccer team remains undefeated after beating Shenendehowa 1-0 in a battle of two of the top teams in the state.
The lone goal came off the foot of sophomore Owen Brant on a penalty kick at the 33:53 mark of the first half in front of a huge crowd. Brant had taken a pass from Brendan Degan in the box but was taken down from behind.
Shaker keeper Kyle Harriman had the shutout with eight saves while his counterpart, Collin Stump had four.
Shaker coach Dan Fountain said although Shen controlled the ball more than his squad, his “back duo of Aldi Markocaj and Mason Perry were able to turn them away with help from defensive midfielder Ben Halek.”
The Bison, ranked 18th in the state according to the Sept. 27 Sportswriter’s Association poll, move to 7-0-1 on the season overall and 5-0-1 in league play. The only blemish is a 1-1 tie to Columbia on Sept. 22. Shen (6-2, 5-1) is ranked No. 5.
Shaker will play at Albany on Saturday, Oct. 1, play at Guilderland on Thursday, Oct. 6 and host Guilderland on Saturday, Oct. 8.
