COLONIE LIBRARY: Flip for Flipster

Spotlight News by Spotlight News
January 14, 2017
in Blogs, Colonie, Community Blogs, Opinion, Towns
Reading Time: 2 mins read

Flipster is the new way to digitally read magazines on your computer, tablet, iPad, smartphone or Kindle Fire (as of Jan. 2, OverDrive — our econtent provider — discontinued offering magazines). All you need is your library card.

You can access Flipster on the library’s website by clicking on the Flipster button on the left side of our home screen, or find it on the menu under “Search – eBooks & More.” If you would like to read your magazine offline, simply download it to the Flipster app (free from your app provider).

Many magazines can be kept on the Flipster app indefinitely, and some have loan periods which will be “returned” to the library automatically. Back issues through June 2014 are also available.

There are currently 63 popular titles available; some examples: Forbes, Vogue, Rolling Stone, People, Real Simple and The New Yorker.

Healthy teeth, happy teeth

Friday, Jan. 13, at 10 a.m.: learn about how your kids can adopt good oral hygiene — from caring for their teeth to good nutrition. Presented by the Pediatric Dental Group of New York. Reservations are required. Please call the information desk at 810- 0314 to sign up.

Holiday schedule

The library will be closed on Monday, Jan. 16, for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Colonie Crafters and Scrappers

We’re expanding our scrapbooking weekend to include crafters of all kinds. Join us on Friday, Feb. 10, from noon to 10 p.m., and Saturday, Feb. 11, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Whatever your hobby, bring your supplies, set up a spot to work, and enjoy the company of other crafters. Please register online at www.colonielibrary.org, by phone at 810-0315 or in-person in the youth services room.

If you are interested, we’d love to have you demonstrate a project for all of us. Let us know when you sign up. For ages 12 and up.
