COLONIE — Wolf Road will soon add another brewpub to its ever-growing menu of restaurants.
California-based chain BJ’s Brewhouse will be the first eatery to move into the former Sears Auto Center at Colonie Center, which will be repurposed into a space for multiple restaurants.
Seritage Growth Properties, the owner of the Sears store and auto center at Colonie Center, said in its March 31 Supplemental Information report that the estimated cost for the project is $5.7 million. While the entire auto center structure is about 28,000 square feet, BJ’s Brewhouse will only occupy about 8,000 square feet.
Tom Nolte, president of the Colonie Chamber of Commerce, said that the new restaurant is going to repurpose a place that people have seen as Sears for years, and that he hopes for more jobs to come to the region because of it.
Nolte also pointed out that the restaurant will most likely benefit from being close to Colonie Center, a center of commerce in the town.
“I’m sure BJ’s Brewhouse factored that in,” he told Spotlight News.
Construction is estimated to be completed in 2017, according to the report.
