COLONIE — The Bethlehem boys soccer team’s season came to an end on Monday, Nov. 4 in the Section II, Class AA finals at the hands of Shenendehowa by a score of 1-0.
Jaylin Sykes got the game winner for the No. 2 seed with 9:38 remaining in the first 15-minute overtime period.
Bethlehem, the No. 4 seed, outlasted Schenectady at home in the first round on a muddy, wet day by a score of 4-3, then knocked off No. 1 seed CBA in the semifinals with 5.5 seconds left on the clock.
Shen got by No. 10 seed Ballston Spa 1-0 and then beat the No. 3 seed from Albany 3-0 to make it to the finals.
It was an intense, physical game on the grass at Colonie High School on a perfect, mid-fall night for soccer but Bethlehem could not get much going on offense thanks to a stingy Shen defense.
Shen will play the Section III champs from Baldwinsville in the state quarterfinals on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Colonie High School.
