It’s Thanksgiving time once again — that time of the year where we get together with family and friends to share in an overabundance of food and give thanks for what we have.
We at Spotlight News have our own list of things we’re thankful for. It’s a relatively short list, but loaded with a lot of people.
The first group we want to thank is our staff — from our publisher, John McIntyre, to our editorial staff, our art department, our advertising representatives, our business manager and our office manager. For such a small staff, we get a lot done in a week. Our reporters — Marcy Velte, John Purcell, Emily Drew and Michael Hallisey — and our sports editor, Rob Jonas, may be the names you recognize most easily, since their names are at the top of every story they write. But we wouldn’t have a product for you to read without the behind-the-scenes help from managing editor Kristen Roberts, advertising representatives Cyndi Robinson and Tony Gaddy, art director David Abbott, graphic designer Martha Eriksen, distribution manager Evelyn Necroto and the drivers who deliver our publications, and our front office staff of Shekia Gandy and Kathy Bryant. They all make contributions to the product that you see on the newsstands and in your mailboxes.
The second group is our advertisers. As you know, the economic structure has changed in this region and this country. Businesses have more choices than ever when it comes to advertising themselves to consumers. Beyond the traditional media (newspapers, radio and TV), there are websites and social media outlets galore. So, we’re grateful when our local business owners choose to advertise with us. It’s not just about the money we get from them. To us, it’s also recognition from business owners that they still believe in our ability to effectively relay their messages to the public. It’s something we don’t take lightly, especially given all the other means they have to advertise their business.
Finally, we want to thank you, our readers, for continuing to support us. Like advertisers, we know you have many choices for getting your news. However, we believe that we offer you the best source for news in your towns. The fact that you pick up our award-winning papers week in and week out or have them delivered to your doors tells us that you also believe that we’re your best source for local news. And we intend on continuing to bring you the best local coverage in the area.
With that, let’s tuck into our Thanksgiving meals and look forward to another wonderful year. Happy Thanksgiving from Spotlight News!
