LOUDONVILLE — “[Fringe] Hair Salon is bright, friendly and welcoming; good things are going to happen here.”
If you scroll through Facebook reviews of Fringe, similar sentiments are the overwhelming majority. Clients love Fringe, and this makes owner Kristin Trance’s mission one worth pursuing.
Trance, a native of Colonie, prides herself in the ultimate salon experience. She’s worked at some beloved salons that host people with high expectations. When she worked at Vidal Sassoon in New York City, her vision for the perfect salon clicked and she realized opening her own salon seemed inevitable.
“I loved how customers would come in [in NYC] and would have their coats hung up for them, a robe draped over them and for that appointment, everything was about them,” she said. “I really love the idea of walking in and feeling like your time is centered around you. You were treated like royalty.”
Trance works hard to make Fringe something her daughter, Livie, would be proud of. She does this by prioritizing what’s important to her ultimate client experience.
“I work with people who have the same end goals as I do and value that high standard,” she said. “It’s important to me that the stylists who work here are as happy as the clients.”
Fringe also hosts a space where stylists can teach classes and grow their craft. It’s a space where education is encouraged, but the stylists are consistent in the services they provide.
“I don’t have many rules,” Trance said. “However, I do ask that stylists keep their work stations clean, focus on the client while they are in the chair, create a positive work environment and understand that teamwork makes the dream work.”
