How important is it to sealcoat driveways? Any good time of year to get it done?
Various studies have been conducted by both independent firms and government agencies that prove sealcoating asphalt doubles it’s life. Seems logical to spend only $150 to sealcoat versus $5,000 to replace an average driveway. Not to mention a freshly sealed driveway boosts curb appeal.
Any special techniques or materials you guys employ?
We follow industry standards for all of our work. We use correct ratios set by the manufacturer and do not water down our sealer. For apply sealer on by hand with a brush or squeegee versus spraying sealer. The reasons we do this: you get better application by pushing the sealer into the groves of the asphalt instead of just spraying and laying on top of the asphalt. Another reason if it is windy you risk over spraying sealer on the house, using a brush gives the installer more control. Brush application may take longer and use more material, but it is well worth the results.
People read and hear about gypsy companies all the time. How important is it for people to use someone who has a solid reputation and a solid track record?
People work hard for their money, so don’t throw it away. Hire a reputable company who has been around for awhile. This way if there is an issue with services provided you will have recourse. Get a few quotes before hiring any contractor. If the price is too good to be true, then it probably is.
