Town of Bethlehem Supervisor Jack Cunningham and DPW Commissioner Josh Cansler are advising residents of a water main break along River Road (Route 144) at the Vloman Kill.
The break impacts customers living off of River Road from the Vloman Kill up to and including some customers along Wemple Road. This includes the Glenmont Job Corps. Residents are currently being alerted door-to-door.
The break occurred late last night. Crews worked through the night to determine the exact location of the break. Additional Selkirk customers were without water last night until the break could be found and contained. Water has been restored to those who were without water while the break was located.
Town of Bethlehem DPW crews are now working to put in a temporary line until the water main under the Vloman Kill can be replaced. Once the temporary line is in, customers will need to boil their water until the temporary line can be sampled and tested. That will take at least 24 hours.
In the meantime the Town of Bethlehem will be providing bottled water to affected residents.
Once the water is fully restored, residents are being advised to boil water used for consumption or cooking until further notice. DPW employees will be going door-to-door with the boil water advisory and to notify residents when this is lifted.
Any questions can be directed to the Water Department at 439-4955 ext. 1132.
