The Schenectady County STOP-DWI Program and the County Legislature are sponsoring a Safe Ride Home Program on New Year’s Eve for the 22nd year.
Under the program Schenectady County residents can take advantage of a free taxi ride home with Central Brown and Blue and White Taxicabs from 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, to 6 a.m. Monday, Jan. 1.
Last year, four people were arrested in Schenectady County for DWI on New Year’s Eve, including two following property damage accidents. This year the county’s goal is to eliminate all alcohol-related crashes.
There is no excuse to drive in an impaired condition when a free ride home is only a phone call away. Police agencies throughout Schenectady County will be out in full force to ensure a safe evening. If you are going to celebrate the holiday, please use a designated driver or take advantage of the Safe Ride Home Program, said Susan E. Savage, chair of the Schenectady County Legislature.
Anyone wishing to take advantage of this service can call 374-4101.
The program is intended to take intoxicated residents to their homes within Schenectady County. Anyone wishing to be picked up and taken to a destination outside the county will be charged a fare from the county line to their destination.
