Rad for Seniors
Mondays, 10:30 a.m. to noon starting on Aug. 8
Instructor: Amanda Kyle-Sprague, Community Justice Outreach Manager of the Office of the Albany County District Attorney
Rad for Seniors offers awareness and defense strategies for older adults; this course is taught in a relaxed environment that is conducive to learning techniques, tactics and unique insights about the problems unique to older adults. This program also includes physical defense workouts for technique development, and educational components to assist with the development of defensive strategies. It is a minimum (15) hour program to be offered in (10) sessions. Classes will be held on Aug. 8, 15, 29 (no class on Aug. 22); Sept. 12, 19, 26 (no class Sept. 5); Oct. 3, 17, 24 and 31. The course is open to male and female participants 55 years old and older.
“Another Opening, Another Show” – Music Appreciation with Lynn Gross
Tuesdays, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Discover the musical history of four Broadway shows by Rodgers and Hammerstein. Lynn Gross will discuss, play and sing songs from the following musicals: “Oklahoma” on Aug. 2, “The King and I” on Aug. 9, “South Pacific” on Aug. 16 and “The Sound of Music” on Aug. 23. On Aug. 30, we will do a musical trivia revue. Lynn Gross graduated from The College of St. Rose majoring in drama and music and conducts the Westview Choir.
New at Westview: “After Lunch Bunch” group discussion
Wednesdays, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
You are invited to join our new “After Lunch Bunch” group. A variety of subjects of topical interest will be discussed, including the upcoming summer Olympics, women’s issues, family dynamics, travel stories, famous celebrities, election issues, etc. If you are interested in being a facilitator on a particular subject, please contact Lynn Gross at 482-2120.
Laughter Yoga
Wednesday, Aug. 31, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Larry Steffler, BSW, CLYL, invites you to laugh your way to less stress and more joy. No previous yoga experience is needed. All fitness and mobility levels are welcome. Laughter yoga is just deep breathing, the willingness to let go, and reconnecting with our childlike nature and laughing.
Sewing Class for Beginners
Thursdays, Aug. 4-25, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
The second half of the Sewing for Beginners class will start on Aug. 4. Members of the class are creating their own summer tops and bottoms. The sewing department can supply fabric; however, we ask that you bring your own pattern, if possible. All seniors are welcome. Instructor: seamstress Alena Taylor. Senior Legal Services
Tuesday, Aug. 9, 9:30 a.m. to noon
Brian Levine of Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York, Inc. will meet, via appointment, with seniors age 60 and over. He will provide confidential legal advice and services. The program is funded by the Albany County Department for Aging. Please call Westview Senior Center at 482-2120 to make your appointment.
Hearing Loss Prevention seminar
Tuesday, Aug. 9, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Dana McReavy, a state licensed hearing instrument specialist, will hold a seminar where she will discuss the causes of hearing loss, types of hearing loss, the layout of a typical hearing test, various hearing aid technology and hearing loss solutions. Ms. McReavy has been employed by Beltone Hearing Aid Centers in Albany since 2011.

Early Bird Dinner at Reel Seafood Company on Thursday, Aug. 4. Enjoy a delicious early bird dinner at the Reel Seafood Company on Wolf Road. The Senior Services bus will leave Westview at 1:30 p.m. and take participants home at 4:30 p.m. For further information regarding transportation costs, please call 482-2120.
New York State Museum Trip on Monday, Aug. 15. Come and see the permanent and special exhibits at the New York State Museum with us. The Senior Services bus will leave Westview at 1:30 p.m. and take you home at 4:30 p.m. If you would like to attend this trip, please call 482-2120.

Westview Senior Center hosts Happy Hour every Wednesday from 3 to 4:45 p.m. and weekly Wednesday Night Dinners at 5 p.m. To make your dinner reservation, call 482-2120 by the date of each dinner by 11 a.m. The suggested contribution is $3.
The following is the Wednesday night dinner program schedule for August:
Popcorn and a Movie: Wednesday, Aug. 3, from 3 to 4:45 p.m. Relax and enjoy a classic movie with us while you munch on soda and popcorn. Following the movie, we will have our community dinner.
Senior Talent Show at Westview Senior Center: Wednesday, Aug. 10, at 5:45 p.m. Do you sing, play an instrument, dance, do magic, stand up comedy or read poetry? If so, we would love to see you perform at our talent show. Please call Lynn Gross, congregate site director, at 482-2120 if you want to participate in the show. Happy Hour is from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m., followed by dinner at 5 p.m.
Popcorn and a Movie: Wednesday, Aug, 17, from 3 to 4:45 p.m. Come and see a contemporary movie with us, along with snacks and soda. Following the movie, join us for dinner.
On Aug. 24, come to our Wednesday Night Dinner when Lynn Gross, pianist, will play popular music of the 1940s and 1950s from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Bingo will be held Wednesday, Aug. 31 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Come and play bingo with us for only 10 cents per card and $1 for the jackpot, following the community dinner.
