The 80th Annual Bethlehem Memorial Day Parade drew over 1,000 marchers and many more watchers who lined the streets of Delmar Monday, May 30.
The parade wound through the streets of the hamlet, passing through the Four Corners and ending at Bethlehem’s Veterans Memorial Park, where there was a brief ceremony. The over $3,000 in proceeds from the parade were turned over to Grand Marshall Joe Bruno (a Vietnam veteran and owner of Joe’s Barber Shop on Delaware Avenue) to be put towards veterans efforts.
The parade was preceded by the laying of a wreath at the grave of Nathaniel Blanchard, who is believed to be the first American troop killed in France during World War I.
The service is a perennial event coordinated between the cemetery and American Legion Post 1040.
