The Scotia-Glenville Board of Education will conduct special meetings regarding the upcoming school budget adoption on Monday, March 29 and Tuesday, March 30, at 7 p.m. at Scotia-Glenville Middle School.
Both meetings are open to the public, who will be able to comment on the budget at both meetings and comment on the final review and adoption of the proposed budget. If the budget is not adopted on Monday, the next day a meeting will be held to again look at the budget and adopt the 2010-11 budget.
Recently, the Scotia-Glenville board of education asked Superintendent Susan Swartz to restore funding in several areas in the district, including 0.4 Full Time Employment positions for foreign language for the sixth grade exploratory class, a full time teaching assistant for the elementary library computer labs, partial funding to the varsity swim and golf teams, $3,750 for academic contests including the Odyssey of the Mind and the annual spelling bee, and a partial restoration of summer school for grades 9-12, according to the Scotia-Glenville website. The Board of Education also agreed to use an additional $260,000 for the fund balance, with half of the money going to the restoration of programs and the other half going towards reducing the tax rate.
