Each year about eight to 12 babies are deemed special enough, by their parents, to have a tree planted in their honor. Plant a Tree For The Newborn is part of Clifton Park’s Arbor Day Celebration and offers a free tree seedling to all Clifton Park babies who have been born between Arbor Day 2009 and Arbor Day 2010 (April 24, 2009 and April 30, 2010).
Interested parents much register their newborn with the town at the Office of Parks, Recreation and Community Affairs in Town Hall by April 1 and can pick up their tree seedling the week after Arbor Day, May 3-7. During this week the newborns’ pictures are displayed at Town Hall.
The Town hopes, said Information Specialist Jude Hazard, that the child will grow up with these `birth trees` and foster an appreciation of nature and desire to conserve wildlife and the environment.
Each Arbor Day the town also holds an Arbor Day Poster Contest.
