Dillon King is only three goals away from becoming the greatest scorer in Section II boys soccer history.
But Loudonville Christian coach Jeff King said his son’s focus is on leading the Eagles to their first Section II title.
To be honest, we think [the scoring record] will happen, but our focus is to win our next game, said coach King.
The Eagles (10-1-1 league, 13-2-1 overall) had another stellar regular season, finishing a close second to Waterford-Halfmoon in the Central Hudson Valley League and winning three of their four non-league contests against mainly larger schools such as Christian Brothers Academy and Mayfield.
Dillon King has been the catalyst for Loudonville Chris-tian’s success. Besides his 32 regular season goals, King also registered 10 assists ` many of which have gone to Eric Hudspath (nine goals, 10 assists) and Koury Deeb (seven goals, nine assists).
The three times the Eagles haven’t won have been the times when King has been kept off the scorer’s sheet. He was shut out in losses to Voorheesville and Waterford, and he missed most of last Thursday’s CHVL finale against New Lebanon, which ended in a scoreless tie.
`We did tie New Lebanon, which cost us the co-championship to Waterford, but it is what it is,` said Jeff King. `Dillon was banged up a little in [last Tuesday’s 4-2] victory over Berlin, and his health is more important than any game.`
Dillon King and his Loudon-ville Christian teammates begin their playoff push Friday with a home game at the Boght Soccer Complex in Latham, and Jeff King said they’re ready.
`We know we’re a good team, and we do expect to take it one game at a time,` said King. `Once you get into the game, that’s when it counts. It doesn’t matter what your seeding is.`
Shaker, Colonie and CBA also received their seedings for Sectionals Tuesday when the Class AA field was announced.
All three teams finished their regular seasons with victories last week. Shaker (8-7-1) shut out Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake 4-0, and Colonie (5-9-2) defeated Averill Park 6-2 in Suburtban Council action, while CBA (8-6, 9-7) made short work of Amsterdam with a 6-0 Big 10 win last Thursday.“
