CAPITAL DISTRICT — Shaker’s Erin Valente is among five Section 2 girls soccer players that received first team All-State honors by the state’s girls soccer coaches association and the New York State Sportswriters Association Thursday, Dec. 8.

Valente scored 21 goals and added 11 assists for the Blue Bison, who finished second to Niskayuna in the Suburban Council Blue Division standings. She is the lone Section 2 player to receive first team honors in Class AA. Teammate Ryann Augstell was a fourth team selection.

Other Section 2 Class AA players earning All-State honors include Niskayuna’s Izzy Lynch (second team), Erica Wasserbach (fifth team) and Olivia Piraino (sixth team); Shenendehowa’s Kendra Harbinger (second team); Saratoga’s Ya Ya VanNess (second team); and Columbia’s Dora Hayes (seventh team).

Two Section 2 players earned first team honors in Class B — Voorheesville’s Veda Hensel and Schalmont’s Alexis Horwedel. Hensel led Voorheesville with 38 goals and 10 assists, while Horwedel recorded 15 goals and 17 assists for Schalmont.

Schalmont’s Sydnee Metzold was a second team selection, while Schuylerville’s Emily Vallee and Hoosick Falls’ Angela Gonzalez were named third team All-State players. Voorheesville’s Julia Voss was a fourth team selection, as was Catholic Central’s Kelly Stanton, while Cohoes’ Natalie Ricci, Schalmont’s Vanessa Wainwright, Catholic Central’s Emily Frodyma and Schuylerville’s Madeline Nevins were all named to the fifth team.

Other Section 2 players earning first team honors were Schoharie’s Carrie Krohn (Class C) and Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville’s Alexis Romeyn (Class D).

The full girls soccer All-State list can be found on the New York State Sportswriters Association website at www.newyorksportswriters.org.
