Officials of the Bethlehem Central School District will have a new weapon in their arsenal this winter in the fight to keep parents and students informed and safe: text messaging.
The district is adding the option of receiving text messages informing of school delays and closures to its School News Notifier system that sends email alerts to subscribers.
Existing SNN users can update their profile with a cell number. Users still have the option to just receive e-mails. The system was first implemented in the 2006-07 school year.
District officials said they would continue to work with the media, parents and community groups to get the word out on any event affecting the school day.
