Night: Rockin’ on The River
TROY — The Collar City’s free, outdoor, summer concert series kicks off at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15, (today) at Riverfront Park off of Front Street in downtown Troy with performances by the Troy Music Academy All-Stars and Talking Heads tribute band Start Making Sense.

Taught by some of the Capital Region’s finest instructors and performers, the Troy Music Academy All-Stars will be the first to take the Rockin’ on the River stage this year to share their musical talents with the crowd beginning at 5 p.m.

Following The Troy Music Academy All-Stars at 6:30 p.m., is Start Making Sense, a seven-piece Talking Heads tribute band. Its musicians take great pride in faithfully recreating the Talking Heads’ entire repertoire. Together, they bring much of the Heads’ unique live show to the stage, with front man Jon Braun as a spot-on David Byrne, giving you a “once in a lifetime” experience.

In addition to Jon Braun, the members of Start Making Sense include John Fadem on lead guitar and backing vocals; Steven Brunette on percussion and backing vocals; Brad Murray on keyboards, both Bill Melcher and Nick Levinos on bass; Jesse Braun on drums and Kathleen Weber on backing vocals.

No alcoholic beverages, coolers, backpacks, bags, containers, packages, thermoses, cups, bottles, cans, flasks, glass containers of any kind; nor any animals or pets (ADA-defined service animals are permitted) are allowed at the concert. Ground rules are subject to change without notice and security personnel reserve the right to inspect any bag, container or package and confiscate any prohibited or illegal items.

All attendees should be prepared to present age identification at any time and wear a BID-provided identifying bracelet at all times within event grounds if they intend to consume alcohol.

For more information, call the Downtown Troy Business Improvement District at 279-7997 or visit the organization’s website at www.downtowntroy.org.

Day: Outdoors After School
DELMAR — Stretch your legs and get some fresh air at the Five Rivers Environmental Education Center on Thursday, June 16, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., for the last session of this free, family-friendly program for this academic year!

This week’s workshop will focus on pond life.

Make sure you dress for outdoor activities. Please do not use insect repellent prior to or during this session as it will harm the insects and the other animals we’ll be looking for. The program is best suited for children in Kindergarten through fifth grade and their caregivers. Participants are asked to meet by the front door of the Visitor Center. Please note that the workshop may be cancelled due to inclement weather; please call the center to confirm.

For more details, call 475-0291 or visit www.dec.ny.gov/education/1835.html.

Five Rivers Environmental Education Center is located at 56 Game Farm Road in Delmar.
