Surviving Cancer Support Group
The Shenendehowa Adult Community Center will offer a Cancer Survival Support Group on select Fridays at 11 a.m. Facilitated by Meaghan O’Connor, RN BS MBA CLNC, this support group addresses informational needs of people being treated for cancer. Cancer does not need to be confronted alone. While support of family and friends is very important, you can join a group of people sharing your needs in order to achieve the goal of a healthy and fulfilling life. Learn and benefit from the support of others on the road to recovery.
Watercolor classes
The Shenendehowa Adult Community Center offers watercolor classes Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon. Students of all skill sets are instructed in watercolor, sketching and acrylic techniques. Students must provide their own supplies, and class fees are discounted for Center members. A supply list will be available at time of registration. Space is limited.
Bocce in the Common
On May 2 at 10 a.m., bocce resumes for Center members at the Shenendehowa Adult Community Center. All levels are welcome including beginners. Courts are located behind the Center. Start date is weather permitting.
Wellness Clinic
The Shenendehowa Adult Community Center will host a Wellness Clinic presented by Brookdale Niskayuna on May 5 at 1 p.m. RNs will be available to offer blood pressure, pulse and weight checks, or to answer any general health questions. Feel free to bring a list of your medications for them to review, as well. This event is free and open to the public.
Wrinkled Ramblers concert
The Shenendehowa Adult Community Center will hold a concert by “The Wrinkled Ramblers” on May 12 at 1 p.m. This singing duo plays banjo and tambourine, as well as shares stories of the songs. This event is free and open to the public.
Greg Nazarian’s Dance Band
On the second Saturday of every month, Greg Nazarian holds a dance at the Shenendehowa Adult Community Center. The next dance will be Saturday, May 14, at 7 p,m. The cost is $10 per person, $5 for members of the Center. Proof of membership is required to receive the discount. Come and enjoy this wonderful event. This event is open to the public.
Celebrity chef dinner
The Shenendehowa Adult Community Center is hosting its May Celebrity Chef Dinner on May 18 at 5:30 p.m. Sponsored by The Summit at Saratoga, dinner will be provided by Recovery Sports Grill. This event is open to the public.
Dining with Diabetes
The Shenendehowa Adult Community Center will host “Dining with Diabetes” on May 26 and June 2 at 1:30 p.m. Presented by Diane Whitten of Cornell Cooperative Extension, this two-part program is designed for people with diabetes and their family members. Classes include learning, demonstrations and tasting of healthy foods. Participants will learn how to fit carbohydrates into a healthy menu, effectively use food labels, choose meals at a restaurant and adopt other healthy habits to help manage diabetes.
Chorus concert
The Shenendehowa Adult Community Center will hold a chorus concert on May 27 at 1 p.m. Come and enjoy the beautiful music of these talented singers. This event is free and open to the public.
Brian Zapel Dance
Brian Zapel holds a monthly dance at the Shenendehowa Adult Community Center. The next dance will be Sunday, May 29, at 7 p.m. The cost is $5 per person at the door.
