BETHLEHEM West Genesee downed host Bethlehem 7-1 on the first day of the Bethlehem Winter Classic hockey tournament Monday, Dec. 28, at the Bethlehem Area YMCA.
West Genesee scored twice in the first four minutes of the game to take a quick lead. Kellen Hagen tallied with 10:34 left in the first period to get Bethlehem on the scoreboard, but West Genesee pulled away from there to record the win.
Jay Considine and Pat McDonald each scored a pair of goals for the visiting Wildcats. Ryan McDonald added a goal and two assists, and goaltender Sammy Colabuto stopped 13 shots.
Bethlehem netminder Alex Breiner made 11 saves.
In the early game, Shaker/Colonie defeated Fayetteville-Manlius 3-1. Tyler Wilson and Zachary Turnbull scored in the first period, and Jimmy Morrison added a second-period tally for the Jets.
Zack Wisbey scored in the third period for Fayetteville-Manlius to break up Connor Harris’ shutout bid. The Shaker/Colonie freshman netminder made 17 saves.
