Saratoga Springs police arrested two men involved in an assault and robbery that occurred in the Saratoga Springs Public Library parking lot on Sunday, Sept. 18, according to information from police.
Sean Michael Wilson, 23, of Ash Street in Saratoga Springs and Adriano Bonopaladino, 34, of Hallendale, Fla. were arrested on Wednesday, Sept. 21, and charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, a class E felony; assault in the second degree, a class D felony; and robbery in the first degree, a class B felony, according to police reports. Wilson was also charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, a class A misdemeanor, according to police reports.
According to police reports, on Monday, Sept. 19, at about 6:30 a.m. Saratoga Springs police received a report that a 28-year-old male was being treated at Albany Medical Center for serious injuries sustained during an assault in Saratoga Springs the previous evening.
Police investigating the incident determined that the victim had been assaulted at between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. on Sunday evening in the Public Library Parking lot by two men who then stole the victim’s wallet while he was unconscious, according to police reports.
The victim eventually regained consciousness and called a friend later that evening who came to Saratoga Springs, picked up the victim, and brought him to Samaritan Hospital in Troy where he was then immediately transferred to Albany Med due to the seriousness of his head injuries, according to police reports. The victim was released after several days of treatment and police said they don’t have any information on the victim’s current medical condition.
Investigating officers were able to establish two suspects in the case and track suspicious transactions on the victim’s credit card, which led to police executing a search warrant at the home of one of the suspects on Ash Street in Saratoga Springs on Wednesday afternoon, said police. During the search, police located items belonging to the victim as well as items obtained by use of the victim’s credit card, according to police reports.
“Crimes of violence such as this cannot be tolerated in Saratoga Springs. I commend the officers and investigators involved in this investigation for their diligence in making these arrests,” said Commissioner of Public Safety Richard Wirth in a statement.
