GUILDERLAND — The Lady Dutch used the long ball to upset The Lady Raiders by a score of 7-6 in a Suburban Council matchup on Wednesday, May 1.
Guilderland (5-4) had back-to-back homers by Riley Sullivan and Alyssa Burg in the first to take a 2-0 lead. Then, Colonie tied it up in the second, and took a 6-5 lead after into the fifth but Guilderland scored two in its half of the fifth to take a 7-6 lead.
Colonie (6-5) had runners on first and third with two outs in the top of the seventh when Sydney Newcomb ripped a shot to left center, but Kendall Rafferty made a spectacular, off balance catch near the wall to end the game.
Colette Cohen went 2 for 4 with a homerun and two runs scored for Guilderland while Burg also had a single for a 2 for 4 performance. Kendall Rafferty went 2 for 4 with a run scored.
For Colonie, Lindsey Dobbs went 3 for 4 with a run scored and Danielle went 1 for 2 with two walks and a run scored.
Michelle Topaltzas got the win for Guilderland, relieving Burg in the fifth inning without giving up a run. The two combined for six runs on seven hits while walking six and striking out three.
Gemmett gave up seven runs on 11 hits while walking two and striking out seven for Colonie.
