ALBANY — Farrell Brothers has been specializing in plumbing, heating and air conditioning since 1921.
There are some things that have changed over that time. Computers and cell phones have streamlined aspects of the business, and it no longer limits itself to just plumbing and heating but instead offers a full range of services – from new countertops to renovating bathrooms and kitchens.
But the reputation for quality work and reliable service is just as strong today as it was in 1921.
“Most of our customers are repeat customers and they trust me and they trust our guys and they trust our company,” said Randy Rowe, who bought the business 30 years ago. “There are 100 guys out there who say they can do it, and they might show up and do some work until a bigger job comes along and they end up going to do that one and putting you on hold. We don’t do that. When we start a job we finish it.”
With 10 apprentices, plumbers and HVAC specialists on staff, and a fleet of eight trucks, most calls are answered the same day, if that’s what the homeowner wants.
Farrell Brothers specializes in older, residential buildings and mechanical systems – in particular Lenox heating and cooling units – but also does commercial work and excavation work and sewer repair.
“Give us a call anytime and we can show you the right solution for your home,” said Rowe, adding financing is available.
The company was located on Delaware Avenue in Albany but moved to Menands, which is more centrally located and with easy access to highways “allows the company to better serve the entire Capital District,” Rowe said.
The reputation the company has worked so hard to maintain – in a business where fly-by-night contractors are a constant threat – is routinely reinforced with more than 800 reviews on the service review website Angie’s List, and the fact it earned Super Service Award for 11 consecutive years.
“We really are all about service, and doing what the customer wants,” Rowe said.
