NISKAYUNA — The Bethlehem boys basketball team found a way to push past a stubborn Niskayuna squad 74-62 Friday, Jan. 27, in a Suburban Council game.
The Eagles (10-2 league, 13-2 overall) jumped out to a 15-5 lead in the first quarter, only to see it erased by a barrage of three-pointers from Niskayuna’s Jack Evans. However, Sean Flynn drained a late three-pointer to give Bethlehem a 22-21 lead after the first eight minutes.
The Eagles rebuilt their double-digit lead in the second quarter, and they fended off several challenges by the Silver Warriors (3-10, 3-12) before pulling out the 12-point victory.
Flynn led a balanced Bethlehem attack with 20 points, 15 of which came on three-pointers in the first half. Hayden Thompson contributed 13 points, while Michael Ortale added 11 points.
Evans drained six three-pointers, most of which came in the first half, and finished with 21 points for Niskayuna. Sean St. Lucia chipped in with 11 points.
Bethlehem visits Mohonasen (3-10, 4-11) Tuesday, Jan. 31, while Niskayuna travels to Colonie to face Christian Brothers Academy (2-8, 3-11).
