Guilderland Public Library news: Programs and Resources for Baby

Spotlight Newsroom by Spotlight Newsroom

Reading Time: 3 mins read

We’ve got two infant-related offerings on our calendar this month. The first is a two-part “Baby & Me Yoga” class for both mothers and their little ones, providing a gentle way to bond, play, and relax together. Moms will learn stretching techniques focusing on core and pelvic floor exercises. Babies will benefit from this special time together as well. Classes will be held via Zoom in two sessions on Monday, March 21 and 28, at 2:30 p.m., and are ideal for infants ages 3 months and up. Please sign up on the Events tab of our website for each class.

The second item is a baby activity kit, focused on sensory play. It’s well known that playing together helps babies’ brains and bodies grow, and provides opportunities for little ones and their caregivers to bond, too. Sign up to receive your kit, geared for ages 6-24 months, on the Events tab of our website, then pick it up Tuesday, March 29 through Sunday, April 3.

Trustees Meet

The Guilderland Public Library Board of Trustees will hold their virtual monthly business meeting Thurs. March 17 at 6 p.m., streamed live on our YouTube channel and archived for later viewing. Public commentary may be submitted at any time to: [email protected]

GPL Podcast

Our monthly podcast, “How Did You Find It?,” explores literature, libraries, information, entertainment and more. In our latest installment on Fri. March 18, we’ll get acquainted with new GPL Assistant Director Natalie Hurteau, and discover how to use Bookflix with Librarian Kristina Ronald. Look for us on all major platforms.

Live Virtual Storytime

Try a morning or afternoon storytime – or both! We offer Live Virtual Storytimes on alternating Thursday mornings and Tuesday afternoons. We’ll read books, sing songs and enjoy a lively time together through Zoom. Sign up on the Events tab of our website for Thursday, March 17, at 10:30 a.m. and/or Tuesday, March 22, at 4 p.m.

Get to
Know Libby

Libby is your digital resource for eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, Kanopy and ArtistWorks. It replaces the OverDrive app, which is being phased out. We encourage you to download Libby now, which carries over all of your Overdrive account information.

Want to know more? We’re offering an informative webinar, “Learn Libby with the Experts,” on Tuesday, March 22, starting at 10 a.m. to help you get the most out of this extensive resource. This virtual two-part class covers the basics (10 -10:40) and favorite tips and tricks (10:45-11:15). Can’t attend live? Sign up anyway – both sessions will be recorded and emailed to all registrants. To register, please visit: https://bit.ly/guilderlandtrain.

Georgia O’Keeffe: Speaking in Colors and Shapes

Join us for a special Women’s History Month presentation on the iconic works of Georgia O’Keeffe, one of the most important and fascinating artists of the past century, on Friday, March 25, at 6:30 p.m. This virtual talk will examine how Ms. O’Keeffe’s strikingly inventive works have become an indelible part of the American artistic landscape. Please sign up on the Events tab of our website.

Completed paperwork is due by Monday, April 18 for the GPL board candidate and budget vote on Tuesday, May 17.
