GUILDERLAND — On Saturday, May 13, at approximately 4 a.m., New York state troopers responded to a fatal accident that occurred Westbound on I-90 near Exit 25 to Schenectady, involving a tractor-trailer and a pedestrian.
The victim, 19-year-old Mariah M. Surgick of Schenectady, was the passenger in a 2003 Nissan Altima traveling westbound on I-90 in the Town of Guilderland. The vehicle was parked on the right shoulder of the highway for an unknown reason and Surgick had reportedly exited the passenger side and attempted to cross the Thruway when she was struck by a 2008 Peterbilt tractor-trailer traveling westbound in the center lane. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Albany County Coroner.
The accident is being reconstructed by the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) and (CVEU) Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit and is still under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact SP Latham at (518)-783-3211, Attention Investigator Seier.
