COLONIE — The town Police Department threw a party, and invited everyone to come to the Crossings for burgers and dogs, to check out their gear and K9 and get to know them a little bit when there isn’t a crisis going on.
“Community engagement has always been a cornerstone of our Police Department. We have always had great community support and this is our way of thanking them,” said Chief Michael Woods. “Many times, when people interact with officers its in crisis mode so this is an opportunity to come out and meet the officers in a different setting and have some fun and see what we do on a regular basis.”
Many officers, he said, are involved in the community outside of wearing a gun and badge t“because it’s important to us.”
There was a bounce-house and face painting for the kids and the community was able to check out the drone unit, sit on a motorcycle and go inside the armored vehicle while police officers cooking the burgers and dogs.
